Projects continued...

The Bug was constructed from materials found at the local hobby shop, mostly balsa wood and light pine. As it is only a mock up of the intended prototype, it is only being used as a guideline to help determine various prototyping methods that will be most effective in the final construction. It is also a static model, meaning it does not move or operate, however with adjustments can be configured into different "posses".

The Bug stands at six inches (on a good day!) and is approximately four and a half inches wide at the hips. This is a rather small model to work with, but it does only take a pop can to use as a "jackstand" when one needs to work on or modifiy it. It only weighs a few ounces, even with all of the screws and various aluminum mounts.

A double scale static model is nearing completion (Feb. 18, '04) and it will be used as a tangible asset when we are in talks with potential Angels and other investors. This static model is the actual size of the expected retail unit, though some adjustments to the design may occur in the future. Updated pictures are here.

This is only a prelude of things to come. With further refinements to The Bug, it can become a viable platform for many different types of vehicles, from exploration to construction and excavation or even helping disable people to walk. If you've ever seen the movie Aliens, you will recall a scene where actress Sigourney Weaver uses just such a construct as something akin to a walking forklift. As the operator of the unit, she is able to load supplies and equipment onto the jet.
